October 2009 Monthly Report

Hi Parents, Students and Friends,

If you are once again reading this newsletter it must mean that you care about what is happening at your children's school. We are rapidly coming to the end of another great year. The soccer pitch is complete and will be ready for the children to go screaming around it this week. The fence is complete and makes the school look fantastic. The sheds have been relocated in anticipation of the new MEGA Gym beginning soon.

The Junior School Councillors who attended the October School Council Meeting were Sarah T and Sheridan A. They explained the ticketing process for the disco and how families with multiple children attending would receive discounts. They also noted that no thongs or high heels were to be worn on the night and that the dress code was free dress but in a sensible manner. Most of the School Councillors will be attending to monitor the evening. If you are not picking up children or going to the disco then you should not be on the school grounds. Any profits raised from the evening will go to the homeless. The evening starts at 6:30pm and finishes at 8:30pm. Parents, please do not let your children walk home, no matter how close you live, without an adult or legal guardian to collect them. The entrance fee includes a drink and a glow stick.

The JSC also raised a large amount of money for the fire relief appeal and the principal received a phone call indicating that Cambridge was one of the top 10 fundraisers in the state. Two Junior School Councillors (Lorisa B and Kirby S) represented Cambridge at a special function at Strathewen Primary School for schools that have been disadvantaged by the fires.

The Amphitheatre quotes are complete and construction should begin at the end of October.

If you are in the IT community and would like to participate in the Technology Sub-Committee to determine the direction the school should adopt for future infrastructure requirements, then please leave your name with the office, marked to the School Council's attention.

If any parents would like to be involved with the Fete in 2010 your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please leave your name with the office marked to the attention of the Fundraising Committee.

The new MEGA Gym is getting underway. PLEASE stay out of the construction area during and out of school hours. Parents please watch out for the heavy traffic that is at the school at the moment.

If your child has an overdue library book at home, could you please ensure that it is brought back to the school promptly. It is impacting on the lending capabilities of the library. Failure to return borrowed books will result in requests for the full replacement cost of the book at the expense of the borrower.

A note to all parents to look out for the new road rules coming into effect at the end of the month and how they may impact on you and the safety of your children and others around the school zone. Please keep to the 40kph near the school at all times. The most valuable thing you have in your life could be about to run across the road to greet you and traffic may not be able to stop in time.

Thanks for taking the time to read the newsletter.

I am currently the secretary of the School Council and had the privilege of being President in 2006. I can’t remember how long I have been on the school council but every year has been rewarding.
The best part is being involved with a group of people who want to create not just a good school but a great school. School Council has allowed me to see what it takes to run this great school. The commitment of the teaching and administrative staff is fantastic. It s a great school to be involved in!

G’day! I really enjoy being a member of the Cambridge Primary School Council. It gives me a great insight into what is going on at the school and what my wife Rochelle (who also teaches Grade 2 at the school) and what my son do all day. I am primarily involved in the Finance Committee and cooking sausages. Although we have a valuable role to play it is also great fun. I encourage any one interested to join a school council.

Mrs Heather Steegstra

I have worked in the office of Cambridge Primary School for 12 years now and thoroughly enjoy the diversity of my role. No day is ever the same, bringing new joys and challenges as I deal with children, parents and staff. Attending School Council meetings has also given me a different perspective on the running of the school, but most important to me are the children that make up our multicultural school population. They really are a joy!
