In English, students learn to appreciate, enjoy and use language and develop a sense of its richness and its power to evoke feelings, to form and convey ideas, to inform, to discuss, to persuade, to entertain and to argue.
Cambridge Primary School follows the philosophies and structures of the Early Years Literacy Program teaching the three areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking in the two hour Literacy block. These are developed using VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards) documents as a guide.
Parent participation is welcomed and encouraged in the two hour literacy blocks and Parent Helpers Programs are available to parents throughout the year.
Classroom grouping is according to the needs of the children and this includes a balance of whole class and small group activities. Cooperative learning strategies are used.
Reading approaches include shared reading, guided reading and literature based reading. These are integrated with writing, listening and speaking. |
