Health and Physical Education at Cambridge Primary School has the responsibility of ensuring rewarding experiences and learning situations for the children in the areas of:

· Physical Education

· Health

· Sport Education

· Bike Education

· Swimming

· Outdoor Education.

 

We aim to promote and develop a balanced program that incorporates the aspects of fitness, skill development, competition and fun.

The school facilities include an indoor gymnasium, a large multi-purpose oval, soccer field and asphalt areas for netball, basketball, rounders and bat tennis and 3 adventure playground areas.

A Physical Education specialist teacher provided specialist lessons to all grades weekly.

Health is taught of as units in the Integrated Curriculum

Sport Education: Yearly athletics and cross-country events for grades 3 ­ 6 as a selection processes for district events and to promote fitness. A fun athletics carnival for the infant section occurs annually. There is district summer and winter sport competitions in football, netball, soccer, T-ball, volleyball, cricket, rounders, softball and bat tennis .

Elective leisure activities at lunchtime include the:

· Gymnastics Club

· Dance Group

· Tennis coaching

· Soccer Coaching

· Indoor Soccer and Basketball competitions

 

Bike Education: An intensive hands on experience teaching bike and traffic safety education for grade 4 and 5 students each year usually in Term culminating in a road tour.

Swimming: introduces and develops skills to promote confidence, safety and survival in the water via an intensive 10-day water safety program for Prep- grade 4 children.

Outdoor Education: Promotes independence and cooperation in an outside school environment.

· Grades P-2 - enjoy  before and after school activities involving breakfasts and dinners and adventure games.

· Grade 3 and 4 - alternative year camps to Camp Oasis - bushland camp and Camp Wilkin - seaside camp

· Grade 5  - Four day tour to the Bendigo / Ballarat Region.

· Grade 6 - Five day tour to Canberra - educational camp.

 

The Health and Physical Education program at Cambridge Primary School uses individual, team and co-operative learning techniques to optimize learning outcomes. Students are encouraged to develop healthy attitudes and a lifestyle that incorporates sport and leisure activities into their daily lives.
